Every guide below is written by Kory and Johnny Peters, Red Seal Journeyman Boilermakers who have roofed the Fraser Valley since 2016.
Most material advice online is written for the whole of North America, which makes it close to useless here. The Fraser Valley gets over 1,500 mm of rain a year, we sit under river fog for weeks at a time, and moss grows on the north slope of almost every roof in the valley. A shingle that lasts thirty years in Alberta does not last thirty years in Chilliwack.
So these pages are about what actually holds up on the roofs we work on. What we install and why, where the cheap version fails, and the installation detail that decides whether a material reaches its rated life or fails in eight years. Underlayment, flashing, fasteners and ventilation get as much space as the shingles, because that is where roofs really fail.
None of it is a sales pitch for one brand. If a cheaper product is the right call for your roof, that is what we will tell you on the phone too.
