Your Valley Roofers — Agassiz, BC

Your Neighbours
on the Roof

DADS ROOFING is not driving in from the city. We live here. Kory and Johnny Peters wake up in Agassiz, see the same morning river fog you do, hear the same rain hammering down from October to April, and know exactly what that weather does to a roof.

When your neighbour recommends "the guys on McCaffrey," that is us. Five hundred roofs and counting. Asphalt, metal, cedar, barns. We are not going anywhere — this is home.

How Two Boilermakers Ended Up on Your Roof

Before Agassiz, there were the oil sands. Kory and Johnny Peters spent years as Red Seal Journeyman Boilermakers working Suncor, Syncrude, MEG Energy, and CNRL Kearl Lake. Twelve-hour shifts. Forty-below mornings. Industrial safety drilled into every cell of your body — you tie off, you follow procedure, you do not cut corners because corners get people killed.

In 2021, they came home to BC and started roofing. Kory almost quit on day one. The granules chewing through his pants, the August heat radiating off black shingles, working angles that made his back scream. But something happened over those first weeks — the work healed what the oil field had broken. Packing bundles of shingles up a ladder, finding the rhythm, learning to read a roofline the way a boilermaker reads a weld seam. "Once you understand the roof," Kory says, "you become a mountain goat on it."

Five hundred roofs later, we're proud to serve the community we call home. Not a franchise, not a satellite office — just local brothers who know which streets flood in November and which ridgelines catch the worst wind in January.

People they have lost — Kory's dad, his girlfriend — were up on roofs with them. The roof holds memories that most people never think about. That is why every single roof gets the same care, the same oil field discipline. Stay until it is watertight. No exceptions.

What Agassiz Weather Does to a Roof

We do not need to check a weather report — we step outside. Here is what living in Agassiz has taught us about roofing here.

The Morning Fog That Never Really Leaves

If you have lived in Agassiz through one autumn, you know the fog. It rolls in off the Fraser and Harrison rivers, filling the valley floor like water in a bathtub. Some mornings it burns off by noon. Others, it just thins slightly and hangs there all day, a cool grey blanket that keeps everything damp. From October through April, your roof may not fully dry for weeks at a stretch.

That persistent dampness is not cosmetic — it is structural. Shingles that never dry develop moss underneath their edges. Moisture wicks into the decking through microscopic gaps. Algae colonies establish and start digesting the limestone in your shingle granules, stripping away the UV protection that keeps your roof alive. An Agassiz roof can age two years for every one year on a roof in Abbotsford or Chilliwack, simply because it stays wet so much longer.

We specify materials for Agassiz conditions specifically: algae-resistant shingles with copper granules, synthetic underlayments that will not absorb moisture the way felt paper does, enhanced ridge ventilation that pulls humid air out of the attic before it condenses, and zinc strips along ridgelines that wash anti-microbial ions down the roof with every rain. We live with this fog too. We build roofs that can handle it.

Rain That Tests Every Seam and Fastener

Agassiz receives substantial rainfall — the kind of sustained, wind-driven rain that finds every weakness in a roofing system. A shingle lifting one millimetre at the edge? Rain will find it. A flashing lap sealed with caulk instead of properly overlapped? Give it one November storm. A vent boot that has hardened and cracked from summer UV? December will announce the leak at two in the morning.

Because we roof in this weather, we build for it. Ice and water shield on every valley, every eave, every penetration — not because code requires it everywhere, but because we know where Agassiz rain concentrates. Step flashing done right, not the lazy way. Drip edge installed properly at the rake and eave. Pipe boots rated for BC's UV-to-rain cycle. These details do not show up in a quote line item, but they are the difference between a roof that lasts and one that leaks in year three.

Moss Growth That Gets Ahead of You Fast

Drive through any Agassiz neighbourhood and look at the north-facing slopes. You will see moss two to three inches thick on roofs that were clean just a couple of years ago. The combination of shade from the surrounding mountains, valley-floor humidity, and organic debris from the heavy tree canopy creates a perfect nursery for moss, algae, and lichen.

Moss is not just ugly. Its root structures — rhizoids — work under shingle edges and physically lift them, creating channels for water. A mature moss mat holds water against the roof surface like a sponge, adding weight and keeping the decking perpetually wet. We have stripped roofs in Agassiz where the moss mat weighed more than the shingles underneath it.

We offer professional moss treatment — low-pressure chemical application that kills growth without blasting granules off your shingles (pressure washing destroys shingles, full stop). Zinc ridge strips provide long-term prevention. For new installations, we use algae-resistant product lines designed for the Pacific Northwest climate. Annual maintenance keeps it under control. Valley Wind Funnelling and Storm Damage

The valley geography around Agassiz funnels wind in ways that the open lowlands further west do not experience. Outflow winds in winter can gust hard enough to lift shingles that were improperly nailed, peel back metal panels with insufficient fastener density, and turn loose flashing into projectiles. Properties along ridgelines and at the valley edges take the worst of it.

Our oil field background means we think about wind loads the way an engineer thinks about pipe stress. Nailing patterns matched to manufacturer wind-resistance specs. High-wind starter strips along eaves and rakes. Metal panel fastener spacing tightened at edges and corners where uplift forces peak. When a storm rolls through Agassiz and shingles are scattered across lawns on the next street, ours stay put.

What We Bring to Every Agassiz Roof

Oil field discipline applied to residential and agricultural roofing. No shortcuts, no half-measures.

Oil Field Safety Culture

Everything tied off. Harnesses, lanyards, roof anchors — the same fall protection standards that kept us alive on industrial shutdowns at Suncor and Syncrude. Your property, your family, our crew — everyone goes home safe.

Red Seal Craftsmanship

Journeyman Boilermakers read technical drawings, follow engineered specs, and execute precision work. That training does not switch off when we pick up a roofing hammer. Valleys cut clean. Flashing bent to spec. No guesswork.

Stay Until Watertight

We do not leave a roof open overnight. If tear-off starts in the morning, that section gets sealed before we leave — even if it means staying late. In Agassiz, where rain can arrive with zero warning, leaving exposed decking is not an option.

Residential and Agricultural

Your farmhouse and your barn, same crew, same standards. Asphalt shingles on the home, 26-gauge metal panels on the equipment shed, cedar shake on the heritage building out back. We handle it all because Agassiz properties demand versatility.

Genuinely Local

We are not a franchise. Not a call centre in Vancouver dispatching whoever is available. You call (778) 539-6917 and you get Kory or Johnny. The same people who quote your roof are the ones on it the next week. That is how it should work.

Packing Shingles Keeps Us Young

That is not a joke — it is a philosophy. We do the physical work ourselves. We are not project managers with clipboards watching subcontractors. When you hire DADS ROOFING, you get the guys who built the reputation, on your roof, doing the work.

We Know Agassiz Because We Live Here

There is a difference between a roofer who services Agassiz and a roofer who lives in Agassiz. We know that properties along the river corridor get heavier fog than the houses up toward the bench. We know that the agricultural areas south of Highway 7 have different access challenges than the residential streets near the school. We know which local suppliers stock what we need and which ones can deliver to rural addresses without hassle.

When a big storm blows through and half the valley loses power, we are not stuck on the other side of the highway wondering when we can get in. We are already here. We check on past clients. We answer calls. That is what local means — not a service area on a website, but a genuine presence in the community.

Our kids go to school here. We shop at the same stores. We eat at the same restaurants. When we put a roof on your house, we drive past it on our way to the grocery store. That keeps us honest. That keeps the standards high. Because you are not a job number — you are the family three streets over.
